I think content is much more important then presentation in text based products.
But, my feedback on the design:
Banner picture is the first thing I see. What is it supposed to tell me? There is little comedy in it, and definitely no balls. Why not give more priority to the content and less to this photograph?
Landing page. Why do you have a text explaining what this site is about, instead of just serving what it is about first? Your blog page could be the main page, and it could have a short "about" text on the side, and link to a dedicated page. Only the readers who are interested in your content will be interested in the motivation behind your content.
Rather than a "topics" page (with the first 3 lines being unnecessary explanation of what the topics page is about), why not add some tags or categories to each blog post, and on the blog page get a menu/links that will allow you to jump straight to the list of all the articles in the category, like other blogs do?
Glossary is cool, but you could add that stuff directly in your content. For example look at Circopedia, here is an article I wrote, mouse over "pancake throws" to see the explanation of what they are.
The theme here is: Bring the content closer to the user. Remove any barriers or the need to search for anything. Provide quick and clear access to the important stuff (the content), make explanations unnecessary through clever design and remove or hide anything that's irrelevant!
Good luck on your site
